Asset Manager, Renewables

Microsoft is looking for a Renewable Energy Asset Manager to join the Renewable Energy Team within the Cloud Operations + Innovation Organization. This position will be responsible for the management of a large portfolio of renewable energy contracts in support of Microsoft’s carbon neutral goals. This role will provide the candidate with a unique opportunity to join a high impact team and gain a wide range of exposure to global energy markets.  

The successful candidate will have experience managing wholesale renewable energy contracts across MISO, ERCOT, and WECC, fostering strategic commercial relationships, familiarity with US power markets, and demonstrate analytical skills through a proven ability to deliver results. Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage key commercial relationships with renewable energy suppliers in a variety of Global markets

  • Onboard new contracts at execution into an asset management platform and develop commercial relationships with suppliers

  • Monitor the progress of contracted assets under construction and ensure compliance with all contractual obligations, as well as support review and interpretation of renewable energy contracts and ensure vendor compliance  

  • Proactively identify opportunities to reduce risk and ensure that contracts deliver renewable energy in line with expectations to meet company goals

  • Track environmental attribute certificate delivery/retirement in accordance with contract provisions and maintain supporting documentation for audit

  • Ensure compliance with relevant local regulatory requirements 

  • Stay informed and communicate market, policy and regulatory changes that could impact contract performance   

  • Track asset P&L and provide input for asset performance reporting to management

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate information is shared on a timely basis with legal, tax, accounting, and finance

  • Monitor contract settlements and implement tools for independent verification to ensure accurate invoices and timely payments

  • Provide support for contract negotiations with actionable feedback on vendor performance and portfolio risks and opportunities

  • Support the development of a platform of analytical and management tools to optimize the renewable energy portfolio

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 2+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR Master's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Materials Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience in procurement, supply chain, sourcing, engineering, operations, or relevant sales-related roles

  • OR equivalent experience.

Sourcing Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
