Overview

Fairview Health Services is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Med/Surg Unit at the Woodwinds Hospital located in Woodbury, MN.

The Med/Surg RN will deliver care to medical surgical adult patients with sophisticated medical conditions that require close observation, monitoring, and interventions. This unique department offers a mix of medical surgical, oncology, palliative, and hospice care patients. Woodwinds Health Campus opened its 86-bed hospital in August 2000. Located on 30 acres of pristine wetlands in Woodbury, MN, it’s the only hospital in the Southeast Metro area. Woodwinds provides convenient, comprehensive, and quality health care for the community. Schedule: This position will be working 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks). The shift length will be 8 hours on the Night shift, variable schedule, with an every third weekend rotation (F,S,S) and a holiday rotation.

  • 18 Private Rooms

  • Diverse patient population including the following:

  • General Medical Surgical

  • Pneumonia & Covid-19

  • Alcohol Withdrawal

  • Chemotherapy patients

  • Memory Care Patients

  • Palliative and Hospice Care

  • Occasional Oncology Patient

  • Adult Patients 18+ Adaptability, willingness to learn, and critical thinking skills are all important to be successful in this position.

Responsibilities Job Description

The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act.

  • Demonstrates commitment to principles of the patient care model (Professional Partnership Model) and achieving the Woodwinds nursing vision and strategy.

  • Uses the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to coordinate outcome focused patient care. Throughout this process, also understands and incorporates holistic nursing theory based on Watson's Theory of Caring aligning with the practice standards of the American Holistic Nurses Association whenever comprehensive therapy is offered.

  • Communicates effectively with patient/family, physicians, the interdependent team, and other subject areas regarding the plan of care.

  • Assesses and documents learning needs of the patient and family. Develops an individualized education plan for patients and families based on identified needs.

  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements at the point of care to achieve clinical quality, customer experience, nursing engagement, and efficiency and effectiveness outcomes.

  • Aligns with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, board of nursing requirements, patient safety requirements, infection control practices, and other established practice standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.

  • Coordinates the interdependent team while promoting collaborative teamwork and cooperation.

  • Aides in the development and achievement of department goals (safety, cost, quality, patient experience, employee engagement).

  • Maintains knowledge of, and follows, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.

  • Performs other responsibilities as needed/assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Nursing

  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Valid RN License from MN Board of Nursing

  • Acquire specialty certification within two years of hire

  • Expectation of Telemetry training within 6 months of hire

  • Expectation of Chemotherapy Administration Training within 8 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

  • Acute Care experience

  • Telemetry experience
